Asian Journalists at Climate Change training workshop
February 23-26, 2009, a group of journalists and reporters from across Asia are participating in a training workshop under the headline "How to report on Climate Change", held in Bangkok, Thailand,
back-to-back with the workshop on Megacities at Risk, organized in a collaboration between among others START and ADB.

BCI task leader participated in international symposium in Xishuangbanna, PR China
Xishuangbanna Tropical Botanical Garden convened an international symposium on biodiversity conservation during January 1-2, 2009, to mark its 50th anniversary.
Dr. Hasan Moinuddin, BCI task leader, was invited to deliver a lecture, during which he focused on the need for supporting empirical and applied research in biodiversity conservation and sustaining ecosystem services.
Dr. Hasan was interviewed for the magazine Nature during the symposium. Full article

Working Group on Environment (WGE) Held its 3rd Semi-Annual Meeting in Vientiane, Lao PDR
The Working Group on Environment held its Third semi-annual meeting in Vientiane on 13 January, 2009.
The main purpose of the meeting was to discuss key activities in the next phase of the Core Environment Program (2009 – 2011)
for mainstreaming environmental considerations into sustainable development in the GMS.

The 6th issue of the GMS-EOC Newsletter is now out
The first EOC newsletter of 2009 featuring articles on the newly endorsed Law on Biodiversity in Viet Nam, a WBI-EOC co-organized SEA workshop held in December in Hanoi.
You can read about the local trainings on EPA build on common regional framework. Moreover, you can also learn experiences working with the EOC from the two deputation from Thailand and Viet Nam.

Experts' Workshop on Strategic Environmental Assessment in East Asia & Pacific Region
On 4th December 2008, GMS-EOC co-organized an experts’ workshop on SEA in the South East Asia and the Pacific Region in collaboration with World Bank Institute.
In order to optimize synergies, the workshop was held back-to-back with an event on the theme of "Developing SEA systems in Viet Nam", which was organized by OECD, MPI and MONRE.

North-South Economic Corridor Strategic Environmental Assessment - Regional Impact Assessment Workshop (24-26 November, Bangkok, Thailand)
On 24th November 2008, the Regional Impact Assessment Workshop on North-Sourth Economic Corridor (NSEC) Strategic Environmental Assessment (SEA) was held in Bangkok, Thailand.
The participants included international consultants, representatives of regional government agencies, research institutions as well as donors.

On Friday, 14th November 2009, EOC joined the Career Fair that is organized twice yearly for students at the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT)
to find jobs and internship opportunities and connect with possible future employees.

Subregional exchange meeting for biodiversity conservation implementers held in Bangkok
A sub regional exchange meeting, organized by GMS-EOC in Bangkok, brought together stakeholders in biodiversity conservation from across the region.
The purpose of the meeting was to review progress, share experiences and work towards establishing a transboundary framework for biodiversity conservation among GMS countries.

Final Strategic Environmental Assessment Workshop on Tourism Sector in Cambodia
On 28th August 2008, the Final Strategic Environmental Assessment Workshop on Tourism Sector in Cambodia was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
This workshop was attended by senior government officials from relevant line institutions in Cambodia
and regional participants (2 each from Thailand, Lao PDR, People’s Republic of China and Viet Nam) representing the Ministries of Tourism and Environment.

The 5th issue of the GMS-EOC Newsletter is now out
In this issue you can read about the WGE meeting in Luang Prabang where the agenda included issues such as integrating climate change measures into the national development planning processes of the GMS countries.
You can also learn about high lights from the recent BCI monitoring and evaluation mission to the pilot sites in both text and pictures as well as updates on the Strategic Environment Assessment on Hydropower in Viet Nam

Strategic Environmental Assessment of Hydropower - Final Workshop
The final workshop for Strategic Environmental Assessment of Hydropower was held on 17th July 2008 in Hanoi, Viet Nam.
The workshop participants are SEI team, GoV working group, EOC representatives, wider stakeholder group from GoV agencies, donors, NGOs, Mekong regional representatives.
The workshop reviewed the overall conclusions of the SEA and the recommendations for future actions.
