Final Strategic Environmental Assessment Workshop on Tourism Sector in Cambodia
On 28th August 2008, the Final Strategic Environmental Assessment Workshop on Tourism Sector in Cambodia was held in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
This workshop was attended by senior government officials from relevant line institutions in Cambodia
and regional participants (2 each from Thailand, Lao PDR, People’s Republic of China and Viet Nam) representing the Ministries of Tourism and Environment.

The 5th issue of the GMS-EOC Newsletter is now out
In this issue you can read about the WGE meeting in Luang Prabang where the agenda included issues such as integrating climate change measures into the national development planning processes of the GMS countries.
You can also learn about high lights from the recent BCI monitoring and evaluation mission to the pilot sites in both text and pictures as well as updates on the Strategic Environment Assessment on Hydropower in Viet Nam
and the regional trainings that EPA has carried out in response to GMS country requests on capacity building.

Strategic Environmental Assessment of Hydropower - Final Workshop
The final workshop for Strategic Environmental Assessment of Hydropower was held on 17th July 2008 in Hanoi, Viet Nam.
The workshop participants are SEI team, GoV working group, EOC representatives, wider stakeholder group from GoV agencies, donors, NGOs, Mekong regional representatives.
The workshop reviewed the overall conclusions of the SEA and the recommendations for future actions.

Fourteenth Annual Meeting of the Working Group on Environment
The GMS Working Group on Environment committed to actively and appropriately respond to the urgent challenges
of the current food crisis and climate change. This was one of the outcomes of the 14th Working Group on Environment Meeting
that took place in Luang Prabang on July 1-2, 2008.
The WGE identified and prioritized specific actions for the Core Environment Program to respond to these issues.
These include strengthening and harmonizing cross sectoral linkages between relevant sectors of the national and subregional development plans.

World Environment Day GMS documentary launch
The documentary "Forests for our future" about the Biodiversity Corridor Conservation Initiative (BCI) with activities in five countries in the GMS
was launched on the occasion of World Environment Day on Thursday, June 5th at resident missions in Cambodia, PR China, Lao PDR and in Thailand.
Government partners, NGOs, media and youth representatives participated in the launch,
that spurred two articles in the Bangkok Post [Article 1]
[Article 2]
as well as articles in Thaipost and Thai Rath,
one article in Mekong Times, and one in Vientiane Times.

Brainstorming Workshop on "Programming for the CEP" and "Institutional Future for the EOC"
The Brainstorming Workshop was held on 6-9 May 2008 at the ADB Thailand Resident Mission and Arnoma Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand
with participants from GMS countries' WGE representatives, Technical Advisory Panel (TAP), program donors, implementing partners and NGOs.

GMS Environment Operations Center celebrated its 2nd anniversary
On Tuesday, April 29, the Greater Mekong Subregion Environment Operations Center under ADB, based in Bangkok, celebrated its 2nd anniversary at an event held at the ADB Thailand Resident Mission.
The anniversary attracted nearly 60 of the GMS-EOC’s development partners, WGE members, colleagues and implementing partners.
The event also show cased the recently launched documentary called "Conserving our Natural Heritage" about the Core Environment Program that is implemented by the GMS-EOC.

Core Environment Program documentary film is now available!
Conserving Our Natural Heritage: The Core Environment Program documentary film (13 minutes) which gives an overview of the program and activities that have been carried out
by the Core Environment Program. The documentary film also addresses the future challenge of the Core Environment Program.

An Environment Seminar for GMS Senior Officials
The Environment Operations Center of the Core Environment Program welcomed thirteen
senior officials from various ministries of the governments of Cambodia, Lao PDR, PR
China, Myanmar, Thailand and Viet Nam who participated in an environment seminar last
26-29 February 2008 at the ADB Thailand Resident Mission in Bangkok. Mr. Jean-Pierre
Verbiest, ADB Country Director for Thailand graced the occasion on opening day. The
seminar which was titled "Issues and Sustainable Options for the Mekong" focused on the
topics of climate change, transboundary ecosystem management, biofuels and transport.
