9th Working Group on Environment Meeting
The Ninth Meeting of the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Working Group on Environment (WGE-9)
was held in Phuket, Thailand, on 1-2 December 2003.
The Department of Environmental Quality Protection (DEQP), Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment (MONRE) of the Kingdom of Thailand,
hosted the Meeting in cooperation with the Asian Development Bank (ADB).
The objectives of the meeting were:

To present ongoing projects’ updates and advance their progress;
-
To disseminate and share information on GMS country developments in the area of environmental policy/ governance;
-
To promote closer donor coordination in environmental programs in the GMS;
-
To broaden participation of development partners in the WGE; and
-
To discuss the proposed GMS Environment Road Map.
The participants of the meeting included delegations from the Kingdom of Cambodia,
People's Republic of China (PRC), Lao People's Democratic Republic (Lao PDR), Union of Myanmar,
Kingdom of Thailand, and Socialist Republic of Viet Nam.
Observers/resource persons from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA),
Mekong River Commission Secretariat (MRCS), United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP),
as well as ADB staff and consultants also attended.
The meeting was co-chaired by Dr. Monthip Tabucanon, Director General, Department of Environmental Quality Protection (DEQP), MONRE, Kingdom of Thailand
and Mr. C. R. Rajendran, Director, Agriculture, Environment and Natural Resources Division, MKAE, Mekong Department, ADB.
