Component 2: Biodiversity Conservation Corridors Initiative (BCI)

Aim: By 2008, at least five biodiversity corridor pilot sites established, poverty reduction measures and ecosystem restoration undertaken, and ecosystem service payment mechanisms developed.

Activities

Initiate biodiversity corridor pilot sites within GMS economic corridors.
Link biodiversity conservation to poverty reduction at pilot sites.
Harmonized land management and governance regimes.
Restoring ecosystem connectivity.
Capacity building.
Sustainable financing of the biodiversity corridor interventions.

Socioeconomic assessments and identification of livelihood interventions in process: approximately 230,000 people are expected to benefit directly or indirectly through livelihood improvement interventions.
On ground delineation of corridors underway.
