14 – 16 September 2008, Siam City Hotel, Bangkok, Thailand

"Institutionalizing and managing transboundary biodiversity corridors
in the Greater Mekong Subregion: Opportunities and Challenges."

At the BCI Subregional Exchange Meeting (BCI-SEM) for Implementing Agencies, 15 – 16 September, 2008, the BCI implementers reviewed progress across the 6 pilot sites and opportunities and challenges of ongoing biodiversity corridor initiative implementation in the BCI sites was shared between all GMS countries. The objective of the meeting was to understand factors that affect ecosystem services, methodologies on valuation, market pricing mechanisms for biodiversity products, and payment for ecosystem services (PES) instruments that are being piloted in the GMS. Mr. Javed H. Mir stressed in his opening remarks that an important indicator of ownership of the BCI approach will be the commitment to move towards establishing a transboundary framework among GMS countries on managing and maintaining biodiversity corridors and shared natural resources in the GMS.
